Scriptural Focus

“And Mordecai had brought up Hadassah, that is Esther, his Uncle’s daughter for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman was lovely and beautiful. When her father and mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter” Esther 2.7. She grew up and prevented the termination of the nation of Israel by Haman. Our responsibility is to encourage individuals to defend the fatherless “You shall not afflict any widow or a fatherless child. If you afflict them in any way and they cry to me, I will surely hear their cry and my wrath will become hot and I will kill you with the sword, your wives shall be widows and your children fatherless” Ex 22. 22-24. The Almighty God is the father of the fatherless, defender of widow and strangers Psalm 10.14, 68:5- 6, 146.9a.

“Learn to do good, seek justice, rebuke the oppressor, defend the fatherless and plead for the widow. Isaiah 1. 17 the God we serve denounced exploitation of the fatherless in all forms Jer. 7.6a, Ezekiel 22. 7c, Malachi 3.5. The orphan daughters of Zelophe had requested an inheritance of their father’s property since the latter died not having a son and was given them. Numbers 27.1-11. An encouragement to people everywhere is to allow the fatherless children, boys or girls to inherit their parent’s property. David sends for Mephiboshelh (an orphan), entertains him at his table and restores to him all that was Saul’s. 2 Samuel Chapter 9. It is therefore the duty of persons of good will especially God fearing individuals to restore orphans to their God given positions. Joash saved from queen Athaliah’s killings became King in Judah. 2Kg.11.1-12. A little support given to the fatherless can greatly impact the future generations beyond measure.

“Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this; to visit orphans and widows in their trouble and to keep oneself unspotted from the world” James 1.27. Visitations to the fatherless usually create hope and confidence to the target population. By supporting orphans HAWO – CAM is indirectly assisting the many widows involved with them. “He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow and loves the stranger giving food and clothing”. Dt.10.18, the principles of tithing in the old involved taking care of orphans Dt.14. 28-29, 16.11, 14, 24.17-22. Orphans can be supported through clothing, feeding, educational and medical needs.

“Cursed is the one who perverts the justice due to strangers, the fatherless and widows”  Dt. 27.19 “Yes, you overwhelm the fatherless” Job.6.27a. “You have sent widows empty and the strength of the fatherless was crushed. Job.22.9. “They drive away the donkey of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox as a pledge, some snatch the fatherless from the breast and take pledge from the poor” Job.24.3, 9. God delivers the poor who cry out, the fatherless and one who has no helper. Through out the life of the Servant of God, Job defended the cause of widows and orphans. We can’t close our eyes to thousands of helpless kids, pupils and youths in towns and villages.

The call is simple “Defend the poor and the fatherless, do justice to the afflicted and needy” Psalm 82.3. “Do not remove the ancient Landmark, don’t enter the field of the fatherless” Proverb 23. 10. God would execute judgment and righteousness and deliver the plunder out of the hand of the oppressor. Jer. 22. 3, Isaiah 10. 1-2. The scripture is clear to all of us “Leave your fatherless children, I will preserve them alive. And let your widows trust Me” Jer. 49.11. “You are our gods. For in you the fatherless find mercy” Hosea 14. 3b. HAWO-CAM wants to speak where God speaks, defend what He is defending; Invites friends and partners to also speak and defend this scriptural cause to the glory of the Almighty God. Mordecai took care of Esther as his own daughter. Why not you?
